These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the githash website at githash.org
(the “Service”), operated by githash (“githash”, “we”, “us”). By
accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The service
githash is an informational tool that computes and displays per-file hashes (git blob SHA and SHA-256) for public GitHub repositories and lets you look up where identical files appear and pivot to third-party tools such as VirusTotal. The Service is provided on an experimental, best-effort basis and may change or be discontinued at any time.
Acceptable use
You agree that you will not:
- Submit or ingest repositories you are not permitted to access, or use the Service in violation of GitHub’s or any third party’s terms;
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to infringe the rights of others;
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or impair the Service, or circumvent rate limits or other access controls;
- Engage in automated bulk scraping or otherwise place an unreasonable load on the Service or on the third-party services it relies on.
Rate limits
We may impose and adjust usage limits (for example, a cap on new repository ingests per IP address per hour) to keep the Service available and to manage costs.
Third-party services and content
The Service retrieves data from, and links to, third parties including GitHub and VirusTotal. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services or content, and your use of them is governed by their respective terms and policies. Repository contents shown via the Service belong to their respective owners; githash claims no ownership of, and does not endorse, ingested code or repositories.
Intellectual property
The githash name, interface, and software are owned by githash. These Terms do not grant you any rights in our branding or software beyond using the Service as intended.
No warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any hash, match, or other information it provides is accurate, complete, or current. You are responsible for independently verifying any results before relying on them.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, githash and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless githash from any claims or liabilities arising out of your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
Changes
We may modify these Terms or the Service at any time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware.
